Business is booming at a Boldon-based company which provides medical gas services to hospital and laboratories

Opus Medigas has taken on a new recruit every month since January – bringing the total head count to eight.

Our rapid growth is well ahead of expectations.

The newest members of the team are experienced installation engineers Tony Bay and Colin Waites.

Six of the new roles are on-site installation operatives and a contracts manager, who is responsible for each project once it goes on site.

Managing director Bryan Wood-Laine said: “From a standing start and just one employee in January, our rapid growth is well ahead of our expectations for the first year.

“Our success so far can be attributed to our reputation and contacts within the industry, coupled with the Opus brand.

“A large part of our recruitment is down to the volume of work we have already won, but we are also looking to recruit additional infrastructure staff in the near future.

“Our unique selling point is that we are a totally independent installation company and therefore able to offer our customers a much more cost-effective approach, by not being tied to one specific component supplier – so can offer substantial cost savings.

“We have recruited someone new in each of our first six months. The majority of these are experienced engineers, but we have also recruited an apprentice.

“We felt it was important to also take on an apprentice early as we recognise that, although the labour market is awash with skilled engineers and pipe fitters, our industry requires very special expertise, which there is a lack of.”
