A HUSBAND and wife team have embarked on their first business venture in a bid to spend more time together.
Kirsten and John Fraser packed in their jobs as a history teacher and worker at Nissan, respectively, to open up the JolieRose Vintage Tea Rooms, in Westoe, South Shields.
It has been hard work but we are really happy we made the decision to do this and we’re both enjoying it and we have more family time.Kirsten Fraser, JolieRose Vintage Tea Rooms
The venture was prompted after the sudden death of John’s dad Ian last May.
Mrs Fraser, 30, said: “When John’s dad died suddenly, we realised just how priceless and short life can be.
“We didn’t feel we were spending enough time together and with our girls, so we decided to take a risk and open up our own business together.
“It has been hard work but we are really happy we made the decision to do this and we’re both enjoying it and we have more family time.
“And we have had so much support from the community.”
The couple have two children, Abigail Jolie, seven, and Lily Rose, five, who the tea room is named after,
The tea room, based at 39 Westoe Road, South Shields, has been decorated with a modern but yet vintage feel and is open Monday to Friday, 10am until 4pm, and Saturdays, 10am until 2pm.
It sells a range of homemade cakes and scones with tea served on vintage china.
Within the tea room is also a trinket shop selling a range of vintage signs and cake stands.
There is also a children’s play area where youngsters can dress up.
Mrs Fraser added: “As well as the tea room we also have a vintage caravan called Doris who can be hired to bring the vintage tea room to your door.
“Doris is also available for charity events too.”
The tea rooms are also available for hire on Sundays for special occasions including birthdays, baby showers and anniversaries.
