Firm’s founder is up for an award

A BUSINESSMAN is hoping to seal the deal after being nominated for an award.

Gavin Richardson, who runs Opus Building Services, has been nominated as a potential Entrepreneur of the Year.

The accolade, sponsored by consumer products company JML Group, is part of the Pride of South Tyneside Awards.

Mr Richardson, a father-of-two, began his career as an electrical apprentice in 1997.

The 39-year-old launched his own company in 2006, and it has since grown steadily.

The company, based in Boldon, now employs 65 people.

Mr Richardson launched a second business, Opus Green, in 2010.

Opus has so far seen the development of 16 apprentices and adult trainees.

Since completing a masters degree in business administration in 2011, Mr Richardson has taken on two additional, unpaid non-executive roles.

He was elected to the main board of trustees for the Chartered Manager Institute (CMI), a source of professional management courses, in 2013.

He also holds a role for specialist insurance companies ECIH, ECIC and ECIC.

Opus Building Services are a leading contractor of mechanical and electrical engineering services across a wide range of sectors.

It aims to provide innovative, efficient, cost-effective and sustainable mechanical and electrical engineering solutions for clients.

Mr Richardson said: “It’s fantastic to be nominated for this award.

“Opus spends a lot of time in South Tyneside, and it’s a great place to grow a business.

“It’s fantastic to be in a position where I can offer employment to others.”
