Christmas is coming – and businesses are being urged to showcase their wares to thousands of people at an annual festive fair in South Tyneside.
The two-day South Tyneside Christmas Fair attracts sellers of gourmet food, crafts and a vast array of unique merchandise to its popular stalls.
Last year, an estimated 4,000 people visited an event organised by environmental charity Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle (STAN) and South Tyneside Council – making it a huge seasonal success.
Now they are appealing for stallholders to take part in this year’s extravaganza, which is on Saturday, November 28, and Sunday, November 29, at Haven Point leisure complex in Pier Parade, South Shields.
Over 100 organisations and traders have already signed up and others have until Monday, August 31, to apply for places.
Andrew Watts, executive director of Groundwork STAN, said: “The South Tyneside Christmas Fair has been a great success for the past two years and it is gearing up to be again.
“Haven Point will be bursting at the seams with stalls selling everything from handmade Christmas decorations and unique jewellery to organic dog treats, original artwork, photography and tasty artisan foods.
“We are especially looking for artisan food stalls and unique street/artisan food catering vans, as the fair will be inside and outside of Haven Point.”
The cost of a place is £50 for the full weekend.
Coun Alan Kerr, deputy leader of South Tyneside Council, said: “Last year’s Christmas Fair was a huge success with more than 60 stalls involved. With more than 100 traders having already registered their interest, this year’s event looks set to be even bigger.
“The fair gives us a wonderful opportunity to showcase some of our talented artists and producers while helping to support traders.”
