AIRLINES Flybe and easyJet have launched a record number of flights and routes from Newcastle International Airport this year.

More than 1,900 easyJet flights are now set to take place to and from the North East between October 25 ,2015 and February 28, 2016, providing more than 310,000 seats.

Flybe’s summer schedule has five routes, including a brand new double-daily service to London Stansted, daily flights to Belfast City and Exeter, a multi-frequency service to Southampton and the return of seasonal Saturday flights to Newquay between May and September.

Flybe’s Chief commercial officer, Paul Simmons, says: “We’re really pleased to start our Summer programme that includes new year-round flights between Newcastle and London Stansted. Bolstering regional connectivity is our number one aim at Flybe and we’re always looking for ways to expand this throughout the UK. We look forward to welcoming all our new passengers on board.”

Newcastle International Airport’s aviation development manager, Leon McQuaid, added: “We’re delighted to launch this new double daily service to London Stansted. The route will improve connectivity to the South East of England and drive economic growth. Regional connectivity is important for both business and leisure travellers so we’re thrilled to welcome Stansted to the schedule.

“London Stansted is not only a gateway to the capital, but also gives very easy access to the surrounding counties of Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk.”

easyjet’s flights span out across Europe and include Geneva, Faro, Malaga, Malta and Tenerife.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK Commercial Manager, said: “We’re pleased to have put our winter 2015 schedule from Newcastle International Airport on sale for our passengers, allowing them to book early and take advantage of our lowest fares to top city, ski and beach destinations across Europe.”
