A NEW window of opportunity has opened up for a booming South Tyneside business after it moved into a well-known former garage site.

The old Vic Young’s in Tudor Road, South Shields, is now home to D&H Windows.

Now when we say where we are based everyone knows immediately, because they remember Vic Young’s. That really helps.

Boss Henry Atkinson says the former garage complex, which has stood empty for three years, represents a “perfect location” for his ever-expanding windows, doors and conservatory company.

The business is now located beside Quality Glass & Windows, which manufactures everything D&H Windows sells and fits.

The new expanded showroom enables staff to give potential customers a first-hand view of the products available.

Mr Atkinson, who has 35 years’ experience in the trade, says work is flooding in and he’s planning to add up to another six staff to his current workforce of 10.

The move comes after the company’s former home in Stanhope Road proved too small to meet growing demand.

Mr Atkinson said: “We really have found the perfect location. It’s ideal. All our stuff is manufactured at Quality Glass and that is now on our doorstep.

“Now when we say where we are based everyone knows immediately because they remember Vic Young’s. That really helps.

“Customers can come to the showroom and from one end to the other they can see and test our products.

“Work-wise we are just getting busier and busier. This is supposed to be our quiet period – and we’re not quiet at all.”
