YOUNG job hunters in South Tyneside are being invited to two free employment and training events this week.

The events take place on Thursday and aim to provide information about a range of training and employment opportunities available in the borough.

The first takes place at Chichester House, near Chichester Metro Station, South Shields, at 10pm, and will focus on information, advice and guidance to young parents or expectant young parents.

There will also be the chance to get information on other support avenues such as baby groups, creche facilities and other training routes. The second event takes place at the Ocean Road Community Centre, Ocean Road, South Shields at 2pm

The session is aimed at those aged 16 to 19-year-olds or up to 25 with learning difficulties or disabilities.

Careers, advice and guidance will be available from the council’s Service for Young People team as well as training and employment advisors from companies including Nissan, Springboard, Adult and Community Learning, Groundwork South Tyneside and Newcastle and South Tyneside College.

Coun Joan Atkinson, lead member for children, young people and families at South Tyneside Council, said: “Events like these, which are organised by the council’s services for young people team, are invaluable for those looking to make future plans for their chosen career or for their family life.

“The informal setting will enable those who attend to chat with trained staff who are there to pass on their experience and offer guidance through useful pointers and advice.

“Taking on board information from these events may prove to be life changing for some people, leading to potential training, employment, parenting or social care opportunities.

“South Tyneside Council is committed to providing opportunities for all and these events are planned to help us fulfil that commitment.”
