Life’s a gas for a renowned South Shields heating and boiler fitting specialist whose expertise has helped it win a prestigious regional award.
Heat UK, the trading arm of the Gas Trade Centre, has been named the best in the North East for boiler and heating installation.
Judges at the annual Energy Efficiency and Healthy Homes Awards 2017 picked it from a host of big-name competitors.
The company, which operates from premises in Westoe Road, South Shields, will now compete in the same category at the national final next month.
Despite years of good work – it was founded under the Fred Crooks name in 1971 - bosses admit success came as a surprise.
But they say they are now optimistic of winning the UK final, being held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel, on September 29.
Operations manager Dean Smith said: “It was amazing to win regionally, although we weren’t really expecting to.
“In many ways, we saw the ceremony as a way of networking and getting our name even better known.
“We’ve certainly now done that, and we have gained new business on the back of it.
“It’s the same with the national final – we are going not expecting to win, but we are very hopeful that we just might.”
The independent boiler repair and service specialist works with some of the UK’s leading insurance and home emergency companies.
It also offers its services to homeowners, landlords, offices, property management companies and housing associations.
From its South Shields origins, business has expanded to cover the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside, with a team of 18 frontline and office staff employed.
Mr Smith said the firm took pride in delivering a high quality and first-class service, with its engineers all Gas Safe Registered and experienced in all aspects of heating systems.
Awards success has already led it to be selected by Hull-based national boiler manufacturer Ideal Boiler, to be the featured firm in its new promotional video.
The awards, previously known as the Green Deal & ECO Awards, aim to motivate the energy efficiency sector in its delivery of the government’s Green Deal Finance Initiative and Energy Company Obligation Scheme.
