A MULTI-million-pound business with a base in South Tyneside has welcomed a new member on to its managerial team.

Patrick Love has taken over as general manager at Essentra Filter Products – based on Bede Industrial Estate in Jarrow.

The company is an international independent cigarette filter supplier.

Mr Love was welcomed into his new post by MP for Jarrow and Hebburn Stephen Hepburn.

The MP was carrying out a site visit to the factory – which employs around 240 people.

He was able to chat to workers and also met Essentra human resources manager Simon Thomas.

Mr Hepburn said: “It was a pleasure to meet with Simon and Patrick and the staff at Essentra Filter Products and to be kept informed about the company.

“The Essentra manufacturing operation is an extremely important business in Jarrow and has been for many years.

“Many of the local workforce at the facility live in South Tyneside and in the immediate surrounding area of the factory.

“I wish the company well for the future.”

Essentra Filter Products, which was formerly named Filtrona, until it was re-branded in June 2013, has been developing filters since filtered cigarettes first became popular in the 1940s.

It is the only global independent cigarette filter supplier and the company has grown to make investment in countries such as China, India, Indonesia, Mexico and the United States.

Within its nine worldwide locations, the company has a UK-based research facility, three regional development centres.
