A training centre has opened the doors to its new-look head office in South Tyneside thanks to a £1million investment.
Wescott Coatings and Training Services has used the cash to extend its training centre, which could cater for up to 1,000 people a year.

The company specialises in painting and blasting maintenance, project management and manpower solutions for clients in the offshore, oil and gas, renewable energy, marine and network rail sectors.
The revamp was made possible after the firm, based at Tyne Point Industrial Estate, Jarrow, secured a £190,000 grant from GROW: OffshoreWind after being introduced to the company by Coun Jim Foreman.
Tom Whittleston, who runs Wescott Coatings with his wife Debbie, said: “We’ve enjoyed rapid growth over the last 12 months, and spotted the opportunity to create a dedicated training centre.
“There’s lots of new business being generated in these industries and we are now in a perfect position to take advantage of it, giving local people the chance to develop the skills they need to be a success in these fields.”
Since the extension of the training centre, the company now has access to dedicated training rooms, practical workshops, specialist blasting and spray chambers, and the UK’s only rope access facility which creates real life working rigging scenarios.
It also thought the investment will increase turnover from £1.8million to £3.5million. The firm’s website is www.wescottcoatings.com
