A NEW store will be music to the ears of South Tyneside shoppers.
That’s Entertainment, which sells new and used CDs, DVDs and games, has opened up a branch in King Street, South Shields, creating 10 jobs.
This is the second new shop to launch in South Shields this week, after women’s clothing store Select started trading on Monday.
A That’s Entertainment spokesman said: “We’ve been looking to open a store in South Shields for some time now, and were delighted when a suitable opportunity presented itself.
“South Shields is always a busy town, and we feel that our offer will be a great success with the local shoppers. We look forward to trading well in South Shields for many years to come.”
Coun John Anglin, lead member for regeneration and economy on South Tyneside Council, says this latest store means the private sector is starting to regain confidence in the town centre.
He said: “This is great news. We’ve already welcomed one national high street chain to King Street this week and it’s very encouraging to see another set up. Retail has really suffered over recent years but business is gradually starting to pick up.
“Our South Shields 365 master plan is about giving the private sector the confidence to invest, and it’s clear that confidence is returning.”
Today is Small Business Saturday, a national intuitive to encourage people to visit and support small companies. To mark the event, parking will be free all day in South Shields town centre.
