A HISTORIC town centre pub is set to close its doors ahead of a huge building revamp.

Kirkpatricks, in Ocean Road, South Shields, will serve its last customer on April 7.

The doors will then be shut while work to revamp the property starts.

For two weeks, builders will renovate the pub, owned by Stonegate pub company and managed by Scott Ramsay.

Mr Ramsay, who has been running the pub, which was a former marine college, for the past two years, said: “The revamp is something we know has been desperately needed for the pub.

“Since taking over two years ago we have increased trade to the point where we have been able to take on more people, but the interior was something which needed to be looked at.

“We are still going to have the traditional pub feel, but it is going to be brought more up to date with new decor, TVs, a new bar, seating area and toilets.

“It has taken a lot of hard work to build up the trade since taking over, but now that hard work is really starting to pay off and hopefully the new look will help to enhance our customer base.”

A VIP opening night has been planned to reveal the new-look bar on Thursday, April 23.

Anyone who would like the chance to be one of the first people to check out the venue after the revamp should email kirkpatrickspub@hotmail.com, with a name and number.
