A SOUTH Tyneside engineer is picking up trade all the time after launching a vacuum business.

Scott Hartley, 46, from South Shields, has serviced and repaired domestic and commercial appliances for the last 25 years, specialising in vacuum cleaner repairs.

He said: “I have always dreamed of owning my own business, and with my dad having been successfully self-employed, I knew it was the next step.

“At a turning point in my life, and with the support of my partner, family and friends, I decided that at 46, it was now or never.

“As a first stage of the business, I have concentrated on internet sales of vacuum cleaner spares, both new, used and refurbished.

“The business has been largely eBay-based to date, and this has been known as Vacuum-Spares Ltd.”

Mr Hartley, a Dyson-qualified engineer, said that he can source and supply most spare parts for vacuum cleaners within a few days, and he currently has a company website under construction.

He said: “As a second stage of the business, I have introduced vacuum servicing and repairs to domestic, commercial and industrial vacuums, trading under the name of Vac-King.

“I offer a friendly service, whereby I will diagnose faults and give estimates free of charge for any repairs.”

All repairs are carried out to industry standard and are electrically PAT tested to ensure customer safety.

Although currently working from home, Mr Hartley is now looking for new workshop premises because of an increase in business coming in.

He said: “Following new EU legislation regarding the wattage of vacuum cleaners, I anticipate the demand for repairs of current vacuum cleaners to increase significantly.”
