Slight fall in Jobseeker’s Allowance claimant number in South Tyneside

The number of men and women in South Tyneside claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance has fallen slightly, new figures show.

Statistics released by the Department for Work and Pensions show that 3,715 people in the borough claimed the benefit in July, compared to 3,749 in June, a fall of 0.1 per cent.

Regionally, the UK unemployment rate for the three months ending in June was highest in the North East at 8.1 per cent and lowest in the South West at 4.4 per cent.
