South Tyneside’s Mayor took part in a number of activities during a visit to a training centre.
TCV Employment and Training Services (TCV ETS) in South Shields welcomed Councillor Richard Porthouse in to their offices as part of an event to celebrate and increase awareness of employability support services in his local area.
The Mayor had the opportunity to take part in a range of activities running on the day including meeting the team delivering the study programme as well as individuals and team members taking part in a ‘local labour market’ workshop.
He also had a chance to take part in an employability module.
Coun Porthouse also spoke to the staff about his own background and employment experience, having started his working life as a welder’s apprentice at the age of 15.
The visit was organised as part of the UK’s first Employability Day, an event held across the UK by employment support providers which was aimed at raising awareness across communities and key stakeholders such as local networks, agencies and businesses, of what employment support does in their community and how they can support better employment opportunities.
Lisa Sanderson, Business Leader at TCV ETS in South Shields said: “We were absolutely delighted to have the Mayor visit our employment support centre to learn more about the great services that are available to the local community.
“We very much look forward to welcoming him again in the near future.”
