A new development brewing in South Tyneside will go down a treat with coffee-lovers and create up to 20 new jobs.

A Starbucks drive-through franchise is set to open at a former car-wash next to the Esso petrol station in Newcastle Road, Simonside, South Shields.

The new store is planned to open in October.

A spokesman for Euro Garages said

Applicant Euro Garages has been granted permission by South Tyneside Council’s planning department to build the new outlet, to be accompanied by 21 parking spaces.

However, before work can start, bosses are still waiting for consent under advertisement regulations to be given for signage including a 9m-high totem sign.

If all goes according to plan, building work will start in the summer and the coffee shop will be open by October.

A spokesman for Euro Garages said: “We look forward to investing in Simonside service station in South Shields and introducing a Starbucks Drive-Thru.

“We are currently finalising the store build procurement to start the build in summer.

“The new store is planned to open in October 2015 and will create 16 to 20 full-time and part-time jobs.”

Though the cafe is aimed primarily at motorists, it will also serve workers at nearby sites.

The building will be single-storey with a mixture of pitched roofs.

There will be seats at the front so customers can sit out sit out.
