A TEENAGER is hoping her new business venture will leave customers sitting pretty.
Shelby Barraclough opened up her own nail bar and beauty parlour within Jazz Hairdressers, in Frederick Street, South Shields, seven months ago.
But despite being a novice in the business world, the 19-year-old says things are going “better than expected.”
Shelby, from Marsden, said: “After completing my training at college I was looking for work. Having my own business straight away wasn’t even something I considered at first, then the opportunity to open up within Jazz came about and I thought ‘why not?’
“It was quite scary as it is something I have never done before, but the team at Jazz have been fantastic and so supportive and Sheena, who owns the salon, has been so helpful.”
Miss Barraclough, who trained at South Tyneside College, offers a range of nail treatments, make-up, waxing, massages and facials and says she is looking forward to the party season as her appointment books starts to fill up.
She added: “I’ve been doing this now for seven months and I love it. I love getting to meet different people.
“I never thought when I started the beauty course at college I would have my own business so soon after I qualified. This past year has been really good and I’m really looking forward to what the future holds.”
Owner of Jazz Hairdressers, Sheena Carmichael, who has run the salon for more than 20 years, said: “It’s great I’ve been able to give Shelby a chance to have her own business within the salon. She has so much energy and enthusiasm and is fantastic with her customers.
“I know how scary it can be to start your own business but already she is proving she has what it takes to make it a success.”
Shelby’s beauty parlour is open Tuesdays to Thursdays from 9am to 4pm, Fridays 9am to 5pm and Saturdays 9am to 3pm.
