The manager of a South Tyneside venue which has brought big-name sporting stars to the borough is hoping to replicate its success in other areas.

Carl Mowatt has launched CaT Promotions following a series of events at the Hedworth Hall, in Dean Road, South Shields featuring high-profile guests.

We are looking to continue to put South Shields on the map when it comes to attracting big names.

Now, he is hoping to provide a service through his latest business venture to other venues looking to host similar events.

Already the venue has brought boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard and Larry Holmes to South Tyneside as well as former England players Bryan Robson, Kevin Phillips and Chris Waddle.

Ex Sunderland manager Peter Reid and boxer Kell Brook have been lined up to appear at the venue.

Mr Mowatt, manager of the Hedworth Hall and OTTO restaurant, which is based in the building, said: “For the past five years the Hedworth Hall has been bringing some high-profile names to South Tyneside which has enabled us to grow our portfolio of contacts.

“So there is no reason why we can’t look at organising events for third parties in other areas.

“For a lot of the names we are bringing to the area, you would have to go places like Blackpool, London or Leicester, but we are looking to continue to put South Shields on the map when it comes to attracting big names.”

As well as Peter Reid and Kell Brooke, Mr Mowatt says they are looking to get Paul ‘Gazza’ Gascoigne back to the venue after his sell-out sportsman’s dinner last year, as well as more boxers and former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson to name a few.

Mr Mowatt added: “We are constantly expanding our contacts and portfolio so we can continue to deliver these kind of events to the people of South Tyneside, as well as support other venues also looking to do the same.”

As well as sporting heroes, music events are also being organised under the banner of CaT Promotions, with the Jersey Boys performing on September 4 and Abba Tribute Band Sensation on October 9.

The next sportsman dinner to take place at the venue is Peter Reid.

The former Black Cats manager will host a sportsman dinner on August 13 at 6.30pm.

Tickets for the event cost £20 and include a meal.

The event will be followed by boxer Kell Brook - a professional boxer who fights in the welterweight division.

He is the current IBF welterweight world champion. He will appear on September 18.

Tickets are £40 and include a meal.
