Cameron to edge it from Miliband as next PM, say Gazette readers

SOUTH Tynesiders think it’s almost too close to call between David Cameron and Ed Miliband in the forthcoming General Election.

According to a Shields Gazette pre-election survey, 47 per cent think Mr Cameron will be returned to 10 Downing Street, while 45 per cent think Mr Miliband will lead Labour to victory.

In terms of political popularity, however, the gap is wider, with 46 per cent hoping Mr Miliband wins.

Only 22 per cent would like to see Conservative leader Mr Cameron win, leaving him trailing UKIP chief Nigel Farage (25 per cent).

Of the 194 readers who took part in our survey, 87 per cent said they would vote in the election, an encouragingly high potential turnout.

And 73 per cent say they have already decided which way they will vote.

Meanwhile 82 per cent cited health as the most important issue ahead of the election, perhaps a reflection of the ongoing controversy over a proposed decision to close Jarrow Walk-In Centre.

Immigration (67 per cent), Welfare (58 per cent) and education (49 per cent) came next in terms of people’s political priorities.
