Now the family have launched an urgent appeal to find the beloved pet and reunite him with Kai.

The youngster’s auntie, Adele Melia, 31, said Mr Basil has been a big part of the family for a year.

She said: “It is such a shame, as Mr Basil is already a resuce bird who we adopted a year ago.
“He is 12 years old and is a really friendly bird.

“He has a massive bond to my nephew Kai, who has autism.”
She added: “Mr Basil is such a big part of the family, so it is really important that we get him back.”
