Earlier this year the youngsters took part in a charity walk from West Hall in Cleadon, along the coast and back to their cub centre at St Peter’s Church Hall in Moor Lane, South Shields, to raise vital funds for Guide Dogs UK.

The group managed to raise £1,000 for the charity from the effort, but now they are hoping to raise the final funds to allow them to name the dog they sponsor.

Tonight the Cub Scouts, who are aged between eight and nine years old, will hold a bring and buy sale at St Peter’s Church Hall in Moor Lane, South Shields from 5.45pm to 7.15pm.

Kelly Bell, Cub Scout leader said: "We had a total of 26 walkers that took part in the Dogs Unite Walk, made up of Beavers, Cub and Scouts, as well as leaders and parents both on the day and in their own time over the summer break.

"We have been busy raising money over the summer and are having our final event to reach our target of raising £1,500 for Guide Dogs UK tonight.

"All the Cubs will be there on the night and those who come along can take part in activities including a chocolate tombola, a raffle for a special cubs coin and various other games for a small charge.

"We hope it will raise the final £500 needed to name the guide dog and suggestions for the name can be made on the night."

Everyone is welcome to come along and entry is free.
