Car driven by pensioner smashes into garden wall in Hebburn

A pensioner had a lucky escape after accidentally crashing his car into a garden wall.

It happened at 1pm in Black Road in Hebburn.

The 75-year-old man was in his Honda Jazz when the incident took place.

The crash demolished about 15sqm of the brick wall.

A crew from Hebburn fire station rushed to the scene and made sure that the car battery was disconnected.

An ambulance came to the scene as well but the man was not seriously injured.

One of the pensioner's granddaughters came to pick him up and take him home.

His family have asked the Gazette to mention that they are thankful to all people and emergency services who came to his aid in the aftermath of the crash.
