Caring supermarket staff step back in time in South Shields for cancer fight
Big-hearted supermarket staff went roaring back to the 1940s to help up serve up vital support for the fight against cancer.
Community crusaders at Asda’s stores in South Shields and Boldon joined forces to cause a 1940s-themed stir in aid of Breast Cancer Care.
Asda South Shields community champion Mavis Maughan teamed up with Boldon counterpart Tracey Tough to organise a fun-filled tea dance party at the Charles Young Centre, South Shields.
The Rolling Back the Years extravaganza proved a huge hit, with over 50 people packing into the centre to take a step back in time.
It is just the latest in a host of Strawberry Tea events laid on by the two stores.
The bumper guest list were serenaded by a set-list of 1940s classics courtesy of a DJ.
Mavis Maughan, community champion at Asda South Shields, said: “What an amazing time we’ve had raising awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Care.
“We had a fabulous response by customers and members of the community who were all delighted to spend their time supporting such a fantastic cause.
“Whether it’s you and a few friends in the garden, a family tea party or even a strawberry bake sale at your work or school, this is a great excuse to get together, host a Strawberry Tea event and make a massive difference.”
Hannah Branch, community fundraising manager at Breast Cancer Care, said: “We’re delighted Asda colleagues and customers are supporting Breast Cancer Care and Strawberry Tea this summer.
“We’d love more people to gather friends and family to host their own afternoon tea. The funds raised through each and every strawberry tea enable Breast Cancer Care to continue to be there for anyone facing breast cancer, from day one.”
All money raised will help Breast Cancer Care provide support for women, men, family and friends affected by breast cancer.
Breast Cancer Care is the only UK-wide charity providing support for anyone affected by breast cancer.
