Family fun is set to be the order of the day as the finale of the Jarrow festival takes place on Sunday.

Hedworthfield Community Centre in Cornhill, Jarrow, will be opening its gates to visitors, young and old, to enjoy a host of activities.

From noon, youngsters will be able to enjoy fun fair rides, face painting, balloon modelling and animal fun.

Sports and leisure activities will also be available for people to take part in while a number of stalls, selling a range of items, will be available for people to browse.

The event ends the week-long Jarrow Festival which has seen events taking place in libraries and community centres across the town.

The fun day will also see a carnival-style performance by The Creative Seed Dancers alongside groups from Fellgate Primary School, Jarrow Community Centre and Hedworthfield Community Association.

Choreography for the performance has been put together by dancer Garner Harris while costumes have been designed by his wife Sandy.

The couple, from South Shields, have both worked in London’s West End before coming back to South Tyneside and setting up The Creative Seed.

The Community Interest Company works with isolated communities to enrich their health and life experience physically, mentally and economically by using carnival and dance to connect within and across social boundaries.

The family fun event is on until 4pm.
