A sleepy feline had to be rescued from inside the Tyne Tunnel after it was spotted having a cat nap.
A motorist saw the fatigued feline sleeping in a doorway in the Northbound tunnel earlier today and alerted staff.
Bosses at TT2 recruited the help of animal rescue and rehoming charity Pawz For Thought to free the exhausted cat from the tunnel.
It escaped unharmed and well-rested and there were no disruptions to service in the tunnel.
A TT2 Limited spokesperson said: “A motorist informed our staff to a cat that was asleep in a doorway on the Northbound tunnel. Following the discovery, our staff liaised with animal rescue and rehoming charity Pawz For Thought, which now has the cat in its care. The cat was unharmed and there were no disruptions to our services.
“We would like to thank the motorist for bringing this to our attention and also Pawz For Thought for its support throughout.”
