A family fun day at a popular South Tyneside Community Centre will go-ahead as planned.
Lack of funding had led to doubts over whether the annual family event at Chuter Ede Community Centre would happen.
However, management and staff at the venue, in Galsworthy Road, Biddick Hall, have pulled together a host of activities for families to enjoy after securing sponsorship from Trocaderos.
The event, taking place on Saturday, will feature singer Mea Dean as well as bouncy castles, tombola, face-painter, table top sale and fairground rides.
The BBC will also be visiting to speak to residents about music and the Cultural Spring.
Sports club CE Sports, based at the centre, will be organising a sports day-style event with special guest appearances by Newcastle United Woman’s Football Club. Members of the team will be doing signings as well as coaching sessions with youngsters.
Centre manager Jason Meiers said: “The family fun day is a popular event which has grown over the years.
“We can get anywhere close to 1,000 people through the gates during the course of the day.
“We had wondered if we would be able to hold an event this year due to lack of funding, however, Trocaderos has stepped in to help and sponsor the event.
“All we need now is for the sun to shine.”
Gates to the event will open at 1pm until 4pm.
There is still time for anyone wanting to book a space for the table top sale, priced £5, to get in touch.
Entry is free.
