CHARITIES in South Tyneside are being invited to cash in on a range of funding sources.

South Tyneside Council for Voluntary Service (STCVS) has joined forces with local authority chiefs to invite funding bodies to the borough.

It is hoped the event, at South Shields Town Hall next month, will help introduce groups to funding sources they might not have known even existed.

STCVS spokesman Billy Tindle said: “Applications from groups in South Tyneside for funding is relatively low compared to other areas, so this event is about introducing those groups which may need funding help to those who offer a range of grants.

“The event is open to all voluntary, community groups and charities, who will have the chance to talk to funders to find out what it is they are looking for when deciding on bids and applications for grants.

“There will also be advice available for groups who are providing a service within the community but may not know how to access funding or if they are eligible.”

“It is the first time an event of this kind has been held in South Tyneside, and it is hoped groups will take full advantage of the advice which will be on offer.

Presentations will also be given by funding organisations about what kind of groups or activities they support, along with question-and-answer sessions.

STCVS, based in Beach Road in South Shields, offers groups a range of services including help with end-of-year accounts examinations, reception and admin services, charity registration, creation of constitutions and promotion of events.

Mr Tindle added: “Advice will also be available for people who have already set up or in the process of setting up community or voluntary groups on they can go forward and the types of funding they could be eligible for.”

The information event at the town hall will be held on Tuesday, March 17, from 1.30pm until 7.30pm.

Funding bodies present will include the Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, North East Social Enterprise Partnership, Community Foundation and Virgin Money Giving.

Anyone wanting to book a place for one of the two presentations at the event is asked to call 456 9551.
