In a bid to support these people, the charity surveyed 2,000 people to find out what their ultimate dream cupcake would be – choosing their flavour in three categories: cake, filling and topping.

The top flavours voted for in the North East were a carrot cake base with a chocolate topping, and decorated with cream.

Nationally the top flavours voted for were chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate.

Hannah Woodworth, Dementia Support Worker for the Alzheimer’s, said: “We are calling on cake-lovers to get involved and join our cupcake crusade.
