Colin, 50, said he hopes to raise around £2,000 from his efforts for charity Breast Cancer Now.

He said: “It has taken so much time to make, around six or seven weeks, when normally it just takes a few days.

The prestigious honour is handed out on behalf of the Prime Minister to recognise inspirational volunteers who are making a change in their community.

The award - which will recognise Colin’s dedication to fundraising over the years - comes at a fitting time as the aim of his latest frock is to thank those who have supported him in his efforts to raise thousands of pounds for charity.

“I am hoping to get out for a training run with the dress in tonight to see it works and would like to get round the race as quickly as possible.”

Money for the charity has been raised through donations in exchange for a having tribute messages on roses and poppies that adorn the bottom of the dress.

One rose is in tribute to South Shields couple Chloe Ruterford and Liam Curry who were killed in the Manchester arena attack.
