An inspirational mum says she can now enjoy life the way she wants to after shedding more than 3st.
Davina Smith, 29, from Hebburn, once tipped the scales at 14st 2lb and a size 18, but has experienced an incredible transformation after losing 3st 9lb to reach her target weight.
Davina, who is mum to daughter Isabelle, who will be one this month, said: “I have always struggled with my weight, and as a young adult I found it held me back socially.
“I could see other friends doing activities that I knew I could not do due to my weight and lack of confidence.
“Starting university I began to go to the gym and hated every second of it.
“Because I hated it I would have a treat afterwards, and this would spiral into having more and more unhealthy food.”
After university Davina embarked on a series of yo-yo dieting, but found that once she stopped all the weight - and more - would pile back on.
The turning point came on her dad’s 60th birthday back in 2016, when she found herself feeling uncomfortable in her dress all evening.
Taking action, she started to attend Slimming World sessions with David Ducasse at the Baptist Tabernacle in South Shields, and with Susan Greaves at Hedley Community Hall in Hebburn.
Davina, who works as an administrator, said: “I came to a point where I decided enough was enough.
“I was due to get married to my partner Matthew in May 2016, and I thought, ‘if this is how I feel for just a few hours in a dress, how on earth will I feel on the biggest day of my life?’.
“That night, I looked online and found a local Slimming World group in my area.
“I felt ready for a new chapter in my life to begin.”
That first week, Davina lost 3lb. She went on to hit her target for her wedding, and later that year found out she was pregnant with her first child.
She returned to Slimming World in Hebburn in June 2017 after having Isabelle in April, and managed to shed 2st of baby weight and hit her target.
Now weighing 10st 7lb and a healthy size 12, Davina has taken up spinning classes and tennis, and said she feels better than ever. “It was a wonderful feeling to know I had a goal which I thought was not achievable, but I got there,” she said.
“It was never difficult, as the number of unlimited ‘free food’ you can enjoy while losing weight is incredible.
“I have dropped three dress sizes and can now run around after our baby and enjoy life the way I want to.”
Davina is now getting set to launch her own Slimming World group at Hedley Community Hall on Ellison Street in Hebburn on the Thursday, May 10, at 5pm and 7pm.
Lunch: Deli Sandwich or Greggs, with crisps and chocolate.
Dinner: Bolognese or meals with ready-made sauces. Snacks: Cake and chocolate.
Breakfast: Porridge, or cereal and fruit.
Lunch: Left overs from dinner.
Dinner: Homemade meals such as egg-fried rice with vegetables and prawn balls. Or Moroccan lamb with couscous. Snacks: Fruit or yoghurt.
