Big Pink Dress fundraiser Colin Burgin-Plews made his friends’ wedding a day to remember when he walked up the aisle as their bridesmaid.
The Breast Cancer Now campaigner, from South Shields, was asked by Heather, 47, and Peter Laurence, 58, to take on the role and wear one of his trademark dresses to raise funds for the charity.
The newlyweds, who live near Durham, aimed to raise funds in memory of Heather’s mum, June Middlemiss, who battled cancer.
And the dedicated fundraiser didn’t disappoint, crafting a special burgundy bridesmaid dress and leading Heather up the aisle during the service at Durham Register Office on Saturday.
It was the first time Colin had taken on such a role, having made a name for himself over the years for taking part in charity races and events for the cause wearing his trademark pink dress.
His efforts managed to raise £700 for the charity, surpassing his initial target for £500.
Colin said: “It was incredible and I did my duty to the end!
“I had some strange looks going up the motorway in the car all dressed up, but it was excellent.
“The wedding was brilliant and the bride and groom were so nice, as it must have been a bit weird to have a 7ft bloke there!
“We managed to raise £700 so it was worth it.”
And the wedding will be even more unique as both Heather and Peter – who run dog training business HPL Canine and Family Holistic Therapy – asked their clients to bring their dogs along for photographs.
Heather said: “It was fantastic, we had a really good day.
“Colin was professional to the letter, he was brilliant and I followed him up the aisle.
“He made the day.
“We even had four of our customers bring their dogs along.”
