THERE was barely a pregnant pause for an overjoyed South Tyneside mum who gave birth to her second baby of the year – on Christmas Day!
Little Lyle Mack was a special seasonal delivery for proud parents Carly Maddison and Kevin Mack.
Little Lyle made his arrival two days early – meaning that the bouncing baby boy was born just over nine-and-a-half months after his older sister, Harper.
Miss Maddison, 33, of South Shields, now back home is reflecting on a “fantastic” 2014 – which saw her start the year as a mum-of-two and end it as a mum-of-four.
She is also mother of Abbigayle, 14 and Jacob, 11, who 27-year-old Kevin – her partner of six years – is step-father to.
The newly-swelled family are now savouring a festive season they will never forget.
Lyle was the first baby born on Christmas Day in the borough.
Miss Maddison said: “Lyle was due on December 27. As all three of my previous births have been late, I wasn’t expecting him until January.
“I was hoping he wouldn’t be born Christmas Day as you worry about how you are going to make his birthday special in future.
“But we will probably give him another birthday in the summer. He was born at 7.56am, weighing 7lb and 9 1/2 ounces.
“It is the best Christmas gift you could have.”
Lyle’s arrival completes a remarkable year for Carly Kevin, a sergeant in the Royal Electrical and mechanical Engineers.
The couple have been trying for a baby since Kevin moved back to a permanent base in the UK after completing two tours of Afghanistan.
But two births in a little over nine months was more than they had bargained for.
Baby girl Harper was born on March 12, with Carly pregant again within a matter of weeks.
Miss Maddison added: “Harper was planned, but being pregnant again was a surprise. The doctors said that I have defied science.
“But it has been a fantastic 2014 for us, especially after waiting 11 years for another child.
“Kevin has served with the army for 13 years and done two tours of Afghanistan. He is now based back here and that’s why we decided now was the best time for us to have a family.”
Miss Maddison says the new additions to the family have been warmly welcomed by daughter Abbigayle and son Jacob – who both now have a little baby brother and sister to play with.
She added: “Jacob felt a little bit left out when Harper arrived, as Abbigayle had a little sister. But now he has a little brother too. I now have two of both.”
Lyle will be in good company as a Christmas Day child in the family.
Kevin’s sister, Sarah, was also born on December 25, 31 years ago.
The family still have cuttings of that momentous event – and Sarah can now share the honour with Lyle.
Lyle was one of just two Christmas Day births in the borough.
Sufyah Hussain, from South Shields, welcomed a baby girl on December 25.
