A CHRISTMAS party raised money for two worthy causes.

Mother and daughter fundraising team Lynn Davis and Cheryl McDonald presented Cancer Connections and the Teenage Cancer Trust with £1,150 each.

The pair run the Community Corner charity through Facebook, where they re-sell donated goods to raise cash for community groups.

They held a Christmas party at the Neon Social Club in Nairn Street, Jarrow, where 400 people enjoyed a disco, buffet, raffles, and games.

Cheryl said: “One of our friends suggested raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and then we decided to raise money for Cancer Connections as well.

“It’s a great local cause and that’s what we’re all about, supporting local organisations that help local people.”

The pair presented a cheque to Little Mix star Jade Thirlwall and champion swimmer Josef Craig, who are both patrons of Cancer Connections, which is based in Harton Lane, South Shields, and supports cancer patients and their families.

Lynn added: “We’re over the moon with how much money we’ve raised for the two charities.

“It’s been great coming along to Cancer Connections and seeing the work the charity does and meeting the people that it helps.

“The party was a lot of fun and everyone who went along enjoyed themselves, and it was nice to be able to benefit these charities along the way.”

Cancer Connections co-founder, Deborah Roberts, said: “This is a fantastic donation that I’m sure will be of great benefit to our service users.

“We’re always very grateful to the people who go out of their way to raise money for us.

“We couldn’t do what we do without them.”
