The most popular colours for North East football strips have been revealed as the red and white of Sunderland.
Personalised clothing brand Banana Moon compared each of the major clubs in the 10 biggest footballing hotbeds in the UK to discover the most popular colour ways for each region.
The research was then used to design the perfect strip for the area.
The company looked at Sunderland AFC, Newcastle United, Middlesborough, Hartlepool United and Gateshead.
And Newcastle fans can look away now, as the most popular kit combination for the North East was found to be red and white stripes, with red the most popular colour by 52% and white getting 28%.
Although white was a no brainer (as it featured on all five original jerseys), the finished product demonstrates Middlesbrough’s adoration for red, and is almost identical to Sunderland’s iconic home strip.
Hartlepool United’s traditional dedication to stripes meant that the Monkey Hangers tipped the scales on the design.
