Stirring music for all is on offer at a special concert in aid of the Mayor’s charity next month.
To mark Remembrance Weekend, North East vocal group, Musica Johnnais, will perform a special concert on Friday, 6 November at St Paul’s Church, starting at 7.30pm.
The concert will feature excerpts from Karl Jenkins The Armed Man: Mass for Peace, commissioned by the Royal Armouries in 2000, as well as a selection of wartime songs such as We’ll Meet Again.
The Mayor of South Tyneside, Councillor Richard Porthouse, said: “I am delighted to have been invited to this night which promises to be a wonderful evening in remembrance of those brave soldiers lost in the Great War.
“It is humbling that the event will also raise money for a good cause and I hope people come along to show their support.”
A selection of wine, soft drinks and canapés will be available after the concert and a raffle will be held for guests to enjoy.
Fred Hemmer, Church Warden at St Paul’s church, said: “There will be something for everyone on the night and we hope people will come along and enjoy the music and pay their respects to our fallen soldiers.
“On the night the audience will also be helping to contribute something towards the Mayor’s Charity, which supports worthy causes here in the Borough.”
Tickets for the evening are priced at £8 and are available from the Civic Office at Jarrow Town Hall on (0191) 424 7311 or (0191) 4242 7256, and are also available from Fred Hemmer on 07790 440325.
