The event was aimed at giving people the chance to find out more about the range of jobs available
and what is involved in each role.

Visitors also had the opportunity to try their hands at some of the skills needed to become a professional working in the industry and to sign up to courses on offer to further their career in the field.

Katherine Shone, employment and training manager for Affinity Sutton, said: “We have had an absolutely fantastic turnout.

“We have had lots of people through the doors wanting to find out about the different opportunities and it has been really interesting.

“There has been a huge take up of the courses that were on offer with around 50 people through the doors in the first hour of the event.

“Without a doubt we will look at holding another event of this kind again as the participation, not only from those coming in to find out more about the industry but also from the exhibitors as well, has been outstanding.

“There has been a lot of variety of age ranges visiting throughout the day with lots of different skills and walks of life.”

The event was supported by South Tyneside Council, Groundwork, Keepmoat, Bell Group, Resources North East and others.
