Simonside Primary, in Glasgow Road, Jarrow, has got a donation from Nisa.

The money was raised with the help of customers who have visited the shop, in nearby Tasmania Road, buying specially marked goods, over the past few months as part of the firm’s Making a Difference Locally campaign.

A spokeswoman for Simonside Primary said: “We were contacted by someone from the store to say we had been put forward to benefit from a community award scheme they were running.

“The call came out of the blue so it was a lovely surprise. We had been fundraising as we are currently revamping our library, so this has come in really helpful to really get us kickstarted.”

Youngsters from the school visited the store to say thank you to the owner, Terath Sinah, and staff for putting them forward to benefit from money raised.

The spokesman added: “The pupils were really excited when we told them about the donation and couldn’t wait to meet the staff to say thank you.

“The donation has given us a huge boost towards the cost of replacing furniture in the library.”

Making A Difference Locally campaign asks customers to choose a good cause to benefit from cash raised in the store from people buying specially marked products.
