Coroner to investigate South Shields flat death

An investigation into the death of a woman at a South Tyneside flat has been opened by the coroner.

The body of the woman, believed to be from the Simonside area, was discovered after police and paramedics were called to Bedford Avenue, South Shields on Monday morning.

Neighbours who described the woman as a “lovely lass” said she had only been living in the flat for a week.

A spokeswoman for South Tyneside District Coroner Terence Carney said: “An investigation has been launched by the coroner into the death.”
