PLAYERS from a South Tyneside cricket team have had their efforts recognised at their club’s annual awards night.
Whiteleas and Harton Welfare cricket club staged the event at the Harton and Westoe Miners Welfare in Low Lane, South Shields, last week.
The evening saw players pick up a number of awards in categories including most wickets, best batting average and players player.
Ronnie Peterson, a trustee at the club, said: “The awards are a way to say thank you to the players who come, train and take part in matches and recognise their commitment to the team.”
The second team best bowling average was won by Peter Sowden, most wickets by A.J Wragg, best batting average Alan Beadle and the most runs award went to Ben Wragg. First team award winners were: most runs Steve Martin and Oven Peterson won the best batting average award.
The players’ player award went to Ben Wragg.
n The sports and social club is hosting a childrens Christmas party on December 22 from 2pm until 5pm.
The party will include visits from Wizardora and Santa, who will be flying in to deliver a gift to youngsters.
Tickets are priced £5 and are available from the reception or bar.
