A MAN has been arrested by police following a suspected burglary at a former college site in South Tyneside.
Police were called out to the college’s derelict Hebburn campus, in Mill Lane, on Monday evening, after receiving reports that a burglary was taking place.
Officers arrested a 21-year-old man at the scene and he is currently in custody.
A spokeswoman for Northumbria Police said: “Police received reports of a suspected burglary at a derelict building in Mill Lane, Hebburn.
“At around 6.45pm on Monday, officers attended the scene where a man was found in the building.
“A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
“Inquiries are ongoing and officers are in the area to provide reassurance to residents.”
