Arrest after suspected cannabis farm uncovered on Hudson Street, South Shields

A suspected cannabis farm has been discovered at an address in South Shields.

A resident who lives nearby, but who did not want to be named, told the Gazette that around “six or seven” police cars have been at Hudson Street, near to Tyne Dock Metro station, since around 10am on Tuesday, June 18.

There have been more than a dozen police officers on the scene, he added.

Northumbria Police confirmed that its officers executed a warrant at a property in the street at 9.09am, where they uncovered a suspected cannabis farm.

A spokeswoman for the force added: "Officers remain at the scene and a clear-up operation is ongoing.

“A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of the production of a controlled drug and is currently in police custody."
