A PROBE has been launched after a blaze at a South Tyneside car spray-paint shop.
A total of 16 firefighters from South Shields and Hebburn were called to tackle the fire at the property in Maxwell Street, South Shields.
The alarm was raised at about 9.30pm yesterday.
Crews had to take extra precautions after it was discovered a number of cylinders, some containing propane, were being stored in the outdoor workshop area.
Firefighters spent four hours at the premises tackling the blaze and ensuring the cylinders were safe.
Damage was caused to the workshop area and to a roof of a nearby building.
As yet the cause of the fire is unknown, though it is thought to be suspicious, and an investigation has been launched.
