A MAN who broke into a South Tyneside shop has been ordered to do community service.

Gavin Thomas was found by police leaving the premises in Frederick Street, Laygate, South Shields, on August 3.

The 28-year-old, of Concorde Way, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to burglary at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court, which heard he did not steal anything.

He was given a 12-month community order with supervision and 80 hours of unpaid work, with £150 compensation to the shop’s owner.
