Cannabis farm uncovered after raid on South Shields home

Cannabis plants and growing equipment has been seized in a police raid on a terrace house.

Northumbria Police searched the address is Garrick Street, off Stanhope Road near Chichester in South Shields, earlier today.

Officers have remained on the scene since, with a large amount of equipment including ventilation kit, buckets, seedling trays and black sheets placed in the street as the property is cleared from the house.

Around 20 plants were found inside the property.

A spokesman for the force said: "Following intelligence that drugs were growing at a property on Garrick Street, South Shields, officers this morning carried out a search at an address.

“Officers found a small cannabis farm.

"The drugs have been seized.

"Nobody was inside the property and enquiries are now ongoing to locate those responsible for the farm.

“Anyone with information should contact police at 101 quoting reference 0315 260418.”
