Emergency crews were called to a South Shields residential street after a car crashed into a lamp-post.
The driver is understood to have escaped serious injury after hitting the lamp-post in Ashley Road at teatime.
The incident, involving a red Citroen Xsara, happened shortly before 5pm yesterday afternoon.
Police, firemen and ambulance crews were all called to the scene.
However, a spokesman for Northumbria Police, said the driver is thought to have suffered minor injuries only.
They said staff from the council were called to the South Shields street to make sure the lamp-post was safe for the public.
