Cash stolen in armed robbery at South Shields store.


Police are appealing for information after a knife-point robbery at a store in South Shields.

A man armed with the weapon went into the store in Stoddart Street and threatened a member of staff at around 7am today.

The member of staff was not injured in the incident but the robber escaped with a quantity of cash.

He made off along Stanhope Road towards Vine Street and Olive Street.

He is described as 5ft 8 to 5ft 10 inches and stocky build. He was wearing a dark hooded top and sunglasses.

Extra police are in the area to carry out inquiries into the robbery and are asking anyone who was in the area this morning and saw anything to contact them.
