Court date for child sex offences hearing

A MAN accused of eight child sex offences has received a date for his crown court hearing.

Gavin Doughty appeared at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court facing charges of indecent assault, two of assaulting a girl under 13 and two of sexually touching a girl over 13 between 2001 and 2007.

At a previous hearing the 45-year-old, of Portmeads Rise, Birtley, Gateshead, entered no pleas to the charges, which are said to have taken place in South Tyneside.

He was back at the court for the case to be transferred to Newcastle Crown Court for May 25. Doughty was granted unconditional bail.
