Court Round Up: Taxi jumping, thefts and vandalism

The following people have been dealt with at South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court:

Gary Brown, 28, of Green Lane, South Shields, was fined £73 for failing to comply with a community order.

Marc McDonald, 31, of Fox Avenue, South Shields, had a six-month suspended sentence activated for causing criminal damage to a window in South Shields on Sunday, August 30, and being in possession of cannabis in the town the day after.

He must also pay a court charge of £150.

Dean Thompson, 28, of Beech Street, Jarrow, was given a 12-month community order and must pay £400 compensation and a £180 court charge for stealing a bicycle in Jarrow on Friday, July 17.

Daniel Martin, 26, of Owen Drive, West Boldon, was given a 12-month community order for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour in North Road, Boldon Colliery, on Saturday, June 6.

He was also handed a two-year restraining order and must pay prosecution costs of £400, a criminal courts charge of £150 and a victim surcharge of £60.

Kevin Stiles, 29, of Cairo Street, South Shields, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £8.25 compensation for making off without payment from a taxi in South Shields on Sunday, July 19.

He must also pay a court charge of £180 and prosecution costs of £21.25.

Christopher Robertson, 35, of Mill Dam, South Shields, was given a six-month conditional discharge for shop theft at Tesco in South Shields on Sunday, November 30.

He was ordered to pay £34.50 compensation, prosecution costs of £100 and a £15 victim surcharge.

Michael Clifford, 42, of Lambton Terrace, Jarrow, was fined £110 and ordered to pay compensation of £130 for handling stolen goods at Asda in North Road, Boldon, on Thursday, February 24.

He must also pay prosecution costs of £400 and a victim surcharge of £20.

Raja Hussain, 27, of George Scott Street, South Shields, was given a 12 month community order for an assault in South Tyneside on Monday, June 29.

He must also pay prosecution costs of £650, a criminal courts charge of £520 and a victim surcharge of £60.
