A man facing an assault charge was stopped in his tracks by police – after a fall from his bike led him to breach his bail conditions.
Gary Llewellyn was given bail conditions not to contact witnesses or enter South Shields until his trial date over the matter in October.
But the 23-year-old, of Pine Street, Jarrow, was found slumped in a back lane in Vine Street, South Shields, after falling off his bike.
Keith Laidlaw, prosecuting, said: “Police were called at 8.40am on August 19 to reports of a drunk male had fallen off his bike.
“He was so intoxicated an ambulance had to be called.”
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said: “He had fallen off his bike near Morrisons in Jarrow and got a good whack on the head.
“He decided he needed to go to South Tyneside Hospital and was on his way there when he came off his bike again in Vine Street.”
Magistrates found the breach proved but released Llewellyn on the same bail conditions until his trial.
