A MAN who hurled drunken abuse at police and told them they “won’t ruin my New Year” was locked up and fined.
Officers arrested Daran Walsh outside Club Del Mar, in Ocean Road, South Shields, in the early hours of New Year’s Day, after he shouted and swore at door staff before turning his anger on them.
The 40-year-old admitted a charge of being drunk and disorderly in a public place when he appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
Glenda Beck, prosecuting, said: “At 1.40am on New Year’s Day, police were on duty outside Club Del Mar in Ocean Road.
Walsh was outside the club, shouting and swearing at door staff.
“He was identified as being drunk and continued to be abusive to police.
“He told them ‘you won’t spoil my New Year’ and was cautioned and arrested.”
Geoffrey Forrester, defending, said: “He was mistaken when he told police they wouldn’t ruin his New Year. They promptly did by locking him up.
“He was last in court in 2008 and has turned his life around.”
Walsh, of Newmarket Walk, South Shields, was fined £80 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
